At the Assembly Meeting in fall 1993, a proposal was made to establish Committees. Six months later at the following Assembly Meeting the Hungarian Baths Association established the Medical Committee, realizing the importance of medical assistance in the operation of baths. Its first Chairman was Dr. Károly Kun, who was working very actively and efficiently in his position for two cycles, and he was also working as a member of the Educational Committee. The Medical Committee, in its present setup was established at the Assembly Meeting on November 8-9. 2000. in Zalakaros. The Medical Committee started to work with January 1. 2001. with the colleagues listed below. Accountabilities: 1.) Our members keep in close touch with... the Hungarian Balneology Association, the Hungarian Rheumatology Association. We do research work in the field of spa-waters as part of the Széchenyi Plan. We do presentations at Hungarian and foreign conferences about our achievements. We publish articles about our academic and scientific results, and also, we participate in writing chapters of books. 2.) Together with the other Committees we help the leadership of the Association forming their position in professional issues. We evaluate and make proposals about professional decrees concerning spas. We form a position in wage- , HR-related and professional issues concerning the doctors working in spas. We support the leadership in professional issues during negotiations with NHIF and the Ministry of Health, Social and Family Affairs. In individual cases we provide professional medical consultancy to baths to help them sort out their actual problems. We pay continuous attention to the quality-assurance conditions of spas and also to the emerging problems. We collect and register all the publications that have ever been published about Hungarian spas. Continuously, at our Committee meetings we deliver a comprehensive evaluation about the professional and academic work of one Hungarian spa. It would be of great help in both academic and professional work, if the Professional Balneology College was finally founded. 3.) We participate in the professional training of doctors, assistants of physiotherapy and medical professionals working in spas. We closely follow the latest professional treatment- and examination-procedures and we inform the spas about them. 4.) We established the spa section within the Hungarian Medical Chamber in the first term of 2003. Back
